It has been said that the eyes are the window to one’s soul, but, the hands are the window to one’s true age. . . until now! Using a combination approach to hand rejuvenation, we now have the tools (and expertise) to easily restore your hands back to what they looked like years ago.
As we age, we lose volume in the backs of our hands. Because of this volume loss, our veins and tendons become more prominent and unsightly. Oftentimes, all that is needed is volume restoration with simple injections of a filler (for example Radiesse or Restylane Lyft), or even fat taken elsewhere from your own body. Filler injections are quick, easy, and relatively painless. Results are immediate and there are no limitations in your activities after the procedure. Results typically last at least one to two years.
Another option – for the unsightly veins – is sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution through a tiny needle directly into those rope-like, visible veins. After the injections, your body gradually breaks down the veins and absorbs them. We have another entire network of deeper veins within the backs of our hands, so the more superficial network (those that are visible) are actually unnecessary/superfluous. As such, removing them through sclerotherapy is a safe option.
Collagen production also decreases as we age. Since collagen’s primary role is to provide our skin with structural support, this causes our skin to lose elasticity and look crepey. To tighten loose skin, laser resurfacing is a great option. I use the most technologically-advanced laser on the market to create microscopic columns of destruction in the dermis, allowing new skin to fill in with more collagen and elastin. This leaves your hands looking tighter, smoother and more rejuvenated.
For those stubborn brown “sun spots” (a.k.a. “liver spots”) on the backs of your hands, my clinic has another powerful and effective laser to treat these brown spots with little to no down-time. It uses a light beam to break apart dark pigmentation, which helps normalize your skin color and erase the spots.
Finally, photodynamic therapy (PDT) can be used to treat any precancerous or even cancerous cells. A photosensitizing agent is applied topically to the area, which is then activated by light from a laser to destroy the cells.
Every patient is different, so I encourage you to come in and have a personalized evaluation. We can then work together to formulate the best and most cost-effective treatment plan specifically for YOU, so your hands no longer have to reveal your true age. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
